Adding

1/4 + 1/5

First you have to find the common denominator

Then you just add the numerators and simplify if you can

1/6 + 3/4

Multiplying

4/5 x 2/5

All you have to do is multiply the numerators and the denominators

If you are multiplying a mixed fraction first you multiply the denominator with the whole number and add the numerator then multiply the numerators and the denominators.

If you have an improper fraction then you find how many groups of the denominator fit into the numerator

Dividing

1/4 1/8

For dividing you have to use a special technique called a repical.

Subtracting

4/5 - 3/5

subtracting is just like adding. First you find the common denominator. Then you just subtract the numerators.

1/6 - 3/4

If you simplify 4/24 it is 1/6

a) how many hours did Kristi work that week?

b) how much did Kristi earn that week?

7) Jupiter completes about 2 2/5 rotations every 24 hours. How many rotations does Jupiter complete in one Earth week?

12) the karate club is arranging a grading for its members. It takes 3 1/4 hours to test a group of 4 candidates. How long will the club need the gym in order to process 3 groups of 4 candidates each?

Today in math class we learned about transposing. Here is an example, it's question S on page 52, we have to finish it by tomorrow:

Are you still confused? Well, here are the steps for solving this questio
1. Cancel the variables from the right side to the left

2. Cancel the constants from left to right

3. Solve these subtraction questions

4. Solve the question

5. You verify

I hope you guys understand how to do this now thanks to me.

Pay it Forward

Sunday, January 4, 2009
For my paying it forward I shoveled someone's drive way for free so that they can drive safely when they want to drive somewhere special. The person's drive way that I shoveled was my drive way because my neighbor's drive way was already shoveled by someone else. I felt very generous after I shoveled my drive way because I used my own shovel that I found in my garage, and the best thing about paying it forward is that they didn't say thank you. When I shoveled my drive way it was a very cold day and my fingers were very frozen. When I went inside, I put my fingers on my vent and when they got warm, I felt this weird tingly feeling through my fingers to my wrists. My dad didn't notice that I shoveled but I said pay it forward to him and he didn't understand.

I think one person can make a difference because if they tell the person to pay it forward and that person does pay it forward, then there will be more people doing goods deeds around the world, just like the movie. I also think one person can make a difference, even without saying pay it forward because they can do a lot of good deeds and people might try to copy that person and maybe they will be on the news and even more people would copy their good deeds.

Haiku - Adding

I know how to add

Adding integers is fun

You can do it too

Tanka - Quotative

Dividing is hard

Not dividing is harder

You circle the squares

Then you count how many groups

Then you are done now!

Free verse - Subtraction

Subtraciting is very fun

When you know how to add one plus one

that makes it very fun

Subtracting is easy

But not for the weezy

Subtracting is impossible

But adding is possible

Free verse - Partitive

If you partitive you must share

Because sharing is caring

And caring is good

Being good is great

Great is better than being bad

And if you're bad I'll be mad

Haiku - Ron's rule

When I multiply

Odd amounts of negatives

You get negatives

Biff "Hi Mortimer, what did you do today?"

Mortimer "I went to school, nothing special."

Biff "What did you do at school today?"

Mortimer "I answered a question, n+3-5n+12."

Biff "And what was the answer Mortimer?"

Mortimer "-6n+15"

Biff "No! The answer is -4n+15."

Mortimer "Okay, chill man, chill."

Biff "Okay. I'm sorry for yelling at you. Here, I'll show you what you did wrong."

Mortimer "Aww man."

Biff "First you circle the first variable you see. Circle n and 5n."

Mortimer "Then you answer it?"

Biff "Don't try to rush me. You group them. Now the question is n-5n+12+3

Mortimer "Then you answer it?"

Biff "Then you answer it. n-5n is -4n and 12+3 is 15. The answer is now -4n+15."

Mortimer "We're done!"

Biff "Not quite. To see if you were really listening, answer this question, 2 + 4(3n+8)."

Mortimer "Umm. Is it 12n+10?"

Biff "No! What do you learn in school these days!"

Mortimer "Okay Biff, please don't hurt me!"

Biff "I won't hurt you buddy. You're my best friend. I'll show you how to do it. It's called distributive property."

Mortimer "Not another long word..."

Biff "Here's how you do it."

Mortimer "Biff I'm hungry so I'm going to grab a sand which."

Biff "You're not going anywhere until I burn this in your tiny pathetic head, you got that?"

Mortimer "O.K. I guess."

Biff "First I'll tell you the answer. 12n+34."

Mortimer "Okay, I'll say it. How'd you get that Biff?"

Biff "Well Mortimer first you circle the numbers you have to multiply in the brackets. So, you multiply 4 3n and 4 8 that's 12n and 32 then you just drop down the 2."

Mortimer "And now we solve it."

Biff "No we regroup the numbers so your question should look like this 12+32+2."

Mortimer "Now we solve it. 32+2 is 34. The answer is 12n+34, yay."

This is my xtranormal video.

Sean's Integer Story

Friday, October 24, 2008

Once upon a time there was a person named Avery. One morning, Avery heard a loud noise. He stopped eating his meal, put on a jacket, and went outside. It was an alien invasion. He said "Why are you here?" the alien yelled "We want to take over the world!"
"Not on my watch." he whispered to himself. He jumped into the alien but the alien blasted him away. The alien said "We will not go away from this planet, you dumb dumb."
"What if I proved if I wasn't a dumb dumb?" Avery said in a confident voice.
"Then I will fade away and never come back." the alien said with a smile.
"Then answer these 3 questions. What is (+4)+(-3)?" Avery thought hard. He remembered the time he had 4$ and spent 3$. He had 1$ left. "It's 1."

"You're right. But how about this question? (-3)+(-3)? Avery thought even harder this time. Then he remembered again what he learned in class a week ago. He remembered the number line. So he drew a number line in he sand in front of him. "Uh. Is it (-6)?"

"Yes it is. But I can garuntee you will fail the third and final question. (+9)+(-8)!" Avery knew exactly what method to use, he just didn't know how to do it. He wanted to use integer chips. "You have 10 more seconds." the alien said. Avery started to panic. He started to sweat. When the first sweat drop fell, he looked at it. But he didn't see the sweat puddle, he saw a bunch of leaves, then he remembered how to do it

"It's (+1)!"

"Oh no!" the alien said while he was fading away. After everything was back to normal, he became the town hero and they made a statue after him.

A year passed and Avery was still town hero. Avery was bored one day so he took a walk in the park where they built the statue of him in but, he tripped on something unusual. It was a box but not an ordinary box. It was decorated with glitter, construction paper, and macoroni. He opened the box. A rainbow of numbers shot out of it. A small man with funny hair jumped out of the box.

"Finally. Someone who actually opened this old box." The small man said. "Hello, my name is Joe. I need a little favor from you."

"What kind of favor are you talking about?" Avery said.

"Okay, all you have to do is answer a simple question and I will be set free from this stuffy box."

"What do I get out of this?"

"I will give you one wish! All you have to answer is (-6)-(4)." Avery did this already. It was easy.

"-10!"

"Yes! Okay, here is your wish. Wait, what do you want?"

"I want." Avery thought hard and long. "Another statue of me in the town park!"

His wish came true and everything was okay.
